It is harder than steel, humidity and ethereal oils cannot harm the mills. The grinding mechanism works in two steps and grinds pepper, salt, dried herbs and spices carefully and thoroughly. You can adjust the six grinding levels from powder fine (1) to coarsely crushed (6) at the grinder bottom. Degree of grinding remains exactly the same while refilling and can always be seen on the adjustment ring. In order to make the most of spices, they should always be ground freshly, as the essential oils – the carriers of so many flavours – will disappear after a few minutes. No complex unscrewing before cleaning. If grinding mechanism should stick together (due to red berries / red pepper), you just need to fill in coarse salt or uncooked rice into the mill and grind it shortly. The grinding mechanism of high-performance ceramics and the stainless-steel spindle won’t be affected by the salt or rice. Important product information Why are the mills already filled with pepper or salt? As a little something, Zassenhaus fills their mills with a small sample of sea salt or pepper, which can be used without concern. With this pre-filling you can test the mills directly after delivery. In addition, the filling protects the grinder during storage and transport. The filled mills are therefore new and are delivered to us in this original condition by Zassenhaus. Why is there no Zassenhaus product packaging? For environmental reasons, Zassenhaus abstains from costly product packaging for standard products. The mills are supplied by Zassenhaus with a trailer plus a product label with a quick reference guide. For this purpose, some mills are packed in a simple plastic bag. Certain wood mills don’t have a secondary packaging, as the wood surface may change colour in such a plastic bag. Of course, mills are packaged carefully when are sent out to you, in order to arrive in best condition. Is the grinding mechanism the same in the pepper & salt mill? The grinding mechanism of the pepper- and salt mills are the same. Therefore, you can also use a pepper mill for salt (and the other way round). You can distinguish the mills from a ‘P’ and a ‘S’, visible on top of the cap nut. Some designs (f.e. with a window or out of acrylic glass) don’t have an P or S identification, as the content is easily visible from the outside. What should I do when my mill doesn’t work? While rotating no ground material is coming out or mill cannot be rotated at all. Problem A: the grinding mechanism is turned off too tight (position under level 1) -> turn the adjustment ring and adjust the grinding degree to the correct level (1-6) Problem B: a bigger pepper- / salt corn or something different is stucked in the grinding mechanism -> empty complete content of the mill: unscrew adjustment ring counterclockwise to level 6, remove the foreign element (where applicable by knocking or with the help of a tweezer).
