Winston CHURCHILL CHAMPION OF FREEDOM (1965) v.rare original UK 1sh movie poster

Description: Winston CHURCHILL CHAMPION OF FREEDOM (1965) v.rare original UK 1sh movie poster. Measures standard UK one-sheet size of approx 27 x 40 inches. Single-sided. Folded. Printed in England by W.E. BERRY Ltd, BRADFORD. Very rare original UK one-sheet movie poster for the 1965 Rank Organisation documentary film celebrating the life of Winston Churchill. Churchill died in January 1965 and this film was released later the same year. The film was narrated by Wynford Vaughan-Thomas and featured the more obvious film footage of Churchill's wartime leadership, but it also showed a more intimate and personal side of the great man, with scenes of him painting, writing books, and feeding birds in the garden of his home, Chartwell, in Kent. The poster features a very striking painted portrait of Churchill. The artist is unknown, but the painting is clearly based on 'The Roaring Lion', the famous photograph taken by Yousuf Karsh in 1941 which went on to adorn the cover of the 21st May 1945 issue of LIFE magazine. Poster overall condition - excellent. The poster is in fantastic condition and appears unused. No tears or pin-holes. Minimal handling-wear from handling and viewing, with just the odd very minor soft crease on the edge. A superb example of this very rare poster. I have taken several photos so that all areas of the poster can be viewed in detail. Please also see photos for your own appraisal of the general condition. Interestingly, the reverse of the poster is stamped with what appears to be a US National Screen Service number which denotes the year of release and the release number of the film in that year. Even though this is definitely a British poster, (printed by prolific movie poster printers W.E. Berry of Bradford), this stamp is printed on the few other examples of this poster I've seen, so it was probably intended for mainly distribution to the U.S.A. There was also another version of this poster printed by Berry with French script which would have been sent out to French-speaking countries. For collectors the English language poster is by far the more desirable. Any questions or further photos required please ask. Thanks for looking. - PACKAGING FOR POSTING INFORMATION - All the items I send will be very carefully packaged using strong and secure posting materials. I am a collector of movie memorabilia as well as a dealer, so I fully appreciate and care about the items that I sell. I do not want something to get damaged in the post after I've sold it, so I take a lot care in the packaging of it so that other collectors will happily receive the item in the same condition that it is shown in the photos. I know people are very concerned about how something they've just bought will be packaged - especially if it's valuable and rare. I also know all too well the disappointment of receiving something damaged in the post because of lazy, cheap and shoddy packaging. So, therefore to assure my buyers that their goods will be carefully packed, I will explain in detail below how I prepare and package my items. - FLAT ITEMS such as folded posters, lobby cards, press books, etc, are put into polythene sleeves and then placed between two pieces of THICK card before being sealed in a 'Do Not Bend' envelope. The extra card will make this package an absolute minimum of 10 mm thick to prevent bending. - ROLLED POSTERS are placed inside a sleeve of polythene tubing and then put into a 3 inch diameter tube which has strong 2.5 mm thick walls. The poster will be cushioned at both ends inside the tube with tissue paper or bubble wrap, etc, to prevent movement. The ends of the tube will be tape-sealed on the outside. - LINEN-BACKED POSTERS will be rolled in kraft paper, and then bubble-wrapped. Depending on the type of poster the tube may be anything between a 3 inch and 6 inch diameter. All tubes will have minimum 2.5 mm thick walls. - OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS such as collectable figures, props, etc, will be bubble-wrapped and cushioned with crushed paper or something similar inside a sturdy cardboard box. ANYTHING SEALED inside any package (polythene sleeve, cardboard, bubble-wrap, etc) is done with masking tape. I find this is strong enough to seal securely, but the low stickiness of it means it is easy to remove, and therefore will not cause any damage by accidentally sticking to the item. ADDRESS LABELS will be printed from the Ebay postal page. EVERY single type of PACKAGE SENT will have 'FRAGILE' tape placed on the outside of it to ensure greater care by the couriers during all stages of delivery. Items will be promptly despatched - usually by no later than the next working day following payment, and often on the same day. FREE U.K. POSTAGE. INTERNATIONAL POST will be through eBay's Global Shipping Programme. International buyers please check GSP shipping rates and any applicable import duties before bidding as these are not set by me. Multiple items of the same type (I.e. flat or rolled posters) can be posted together, but please take into account that the GSP may not combine the shipping charge. It may do at checkout, but I don't know for sure. I have no control over this, so please check first from your end before bidding. Thank you.
