NATIONAL INTERCOLLEGIATE RODEO ASSOCIATION CHAMPION BULL DOGGER COWBOY TROPHY BELT BUCKLE— This genuine western American sterling silver rodeo champion’s trophy belt buckle from 1965 was hallmark stamped on the buckle back “HUB SPECIALTY CO., ALVIN G. DAVIS, BROWNFIELD, TEXAS, STERLING”. Alvin Davis founded the American Junior Rodeo Association in 1952. He devoted his life to western heritage and American cowboy culture and was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2009. He contracted with the Nelson Silvia Company to manufacture this trophy buckle (and some others as well), and had Silvia rebrand it with his name and company. NOTE that this is a MODERATE SIZED trophy buckle…….measuring 3 1/4” x 2 1/4”, fitting belts up to 1 1/2” wide and weighing about 2 1/2 ounces. It’s a great addition to any western American trophy buckle collection for many reasons, but mainly because these 1960’s and earlier rodeo champion’s trophy buckles are becoming as rare as hens teeth.
