Description: This item is a vintage piece of Wilton Armetale cast aluminum in the Southwest/Aztec style pattern "Zia". This piece was originally designed as a "bottle coaster", for wine bottles to sit in so condensation didn't damage the table surface, and it comes with it's original green felt insert to absorb moisture. It can also be used as a small decorative dish too. This dish/wine coaster features a shallow base with a 4.4" wide diameter by 1.25" tall, rising into a wide decorated rim, 6.5" in diameter. The rim is decorated with a raised Southwest or Aztec style design with delicate turquoise coloring around the patterns. Wilton Armetale srated out as an industrial casting company in Pennsylvania in 1892, and moved into giftware in the 1940's. In 1963, they invented/patented the "Armetale" aluminum alloy, and when they moved to Mount Joy, PA in 1969 they rebranded as Wilton Armetale and continued production through 2010 when the company was sold. My research shows the "Zia" pattern was introduced in 1983 and stayed in production through 1992. This item is therefore approx 30-40 years old and a great decorator piece.
