Description: ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is a lovely and classic vintage silver oxidized brooch by Weiss. The brooch has round and oval rhinestones in light blue, aqua, royal blue, and green. The oxidized silver finish is in great shape and is completely intact. The foldover clasp is fully functional. Measurements: Please see photos for measurements in inches and centimeters. A little history on……WEISSOriginally an employee at both Coro and the Grad and Schrager Jewelry House, Albert Weiss discovered he had a great talent for designing jewelry. In 1942, Weiss founded his own jewelry company in New York. Weiss maintained relevance through innovative design. Weiss was among one of the first designers to use Swarovski crystals in jewelry. Known its use of black lacquer called “Jappaning” and use of polychromatic (bold and vivid) colors, Weiss continued to wow for many decades. In the 1940’s many pieces featured smokey colored rhinestones called “black diamonds” , in the 1950’s Weiss jewelry sported large rhinestones with elaborate designs and the pioneering use of the “Aurora Borealis” finish on crystals. In the 1960’s Weiss jewelry was more understated than the previous decade but continued to maintain high quality and also introduced white enameling in the late 1960’s early 1970’s and closed in 1971.
