Description: Vintage Mason’s Hero/Maltese Cross Patent Nov 30th 1858 Aqua Quart Jar Zinc LidThis antique jar is one of the original patents or designs of Mason's jars and has what is called an abnormal shape for a mason jar. It is aquamarine in color and has a zinc lid. Jar stands approx. 7 3/8" tall with the lid on, 2 1/2" diameter of the mouth and 3 3/4" diameter of the base. The front of the jar is embossed with "Mason's" below the "Hero/Maltese Cross". Most jars have the cross above the the word Mason's. Faintly embossed on each wing of the cross are the letters "H,F, J and Co." for "Hero Fruit Jar Company". Below the cross it reads "Patent Nov. 30th 1858". The bottom of the jar reads "Pat Nov. 26 67" with the numbers "348" in the middle. The rim of the jar is hand ground indicating it's age. It rim does have some small chips, but the lid screws on without any issues. The zinc lid has Ball embossed on the top. This is in a preowned condition.
