Description: This is a wonderful, vintage octagonal box by Maitland Smith. It measures approximately 10 3/4" high and 9" wide. There is a brass, ball finial on the top which has some tarnish that we have not attempted to clean. The piece is covered in mosaic stone tiles done in cream, grey and tans, and then it is inlaid with brass lines. The interior is very nicely lined in wood. The dark toned wood looks and smells like cypress, but it isn't listed on the piece. The lid is very heavy, and it opens all the way on a hinge. The bottom is lined with felt and has a gold foil sticker that reads "Hand Made in the Philippines designed by Maitland Smith". Condition is very good vintage. No chips or cracks. The brass inlay is a bit tarnished, but is in good condition. The brass knob at the top also shows some tarnish. This lovely vintage piece is fairly heavy, weighing in at over 7 pounds.
