Description: Offered for your consideration is a vintage Garland ballpoint pen, USA-manufactured c.1990. For those unfamiliar with the brand, Garland has been making quality pens in Rhode Island since the early 1960’s but the company’s roots go back decades earlier. The main focus of Garland’s business is marketing/advertising pens and this example is their standard chrome cap with plastic barrel and photo logo flare-top, sometimes called a “bubble top.” It features a promo for a suburban Chicago company called Fabrication Technologies JIT Manufacturing on the barrel, and FAB TECH on the cap top. So, please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this Garland ad pen should be yours. This Garland pen is in clean, very good condition. It measures 5¼” long by just over ⅜” (width not incl. the flared top). The cap and black plastic barrel have no cracks, chips, or dings, just some typical light usage marks from the years, as pictured. Plus, the barrel imprint and cap top logo are in great shape, and the clip rests firmly on the cap with no gap. Overall, this pen presents very nicely. What’s more, it has a twist-actuated mechanism which works very smoothly, without fail, to extend and retract the writing end. The pictured Garland black refill is still writing. More commonly available CROSS refills are identical and work perfectly. I’m not sure if there’s a connection between the companies, but they’re both based in tiny Rhode Island? Lastly, this Garland pen has excellent balance, ample mass, and feels terrific on paper. Garland guarantees their pens forever, which shows they have confidence in their build quality!
