Description: This is a small vintage tin of interest to collectors both of clocks and golf memorabilia. The tin is navy blue and measures approximately 3.75 inches [9cm] high by 3 inches [8cm] width and depth. There is a battery-operated quartz clock inset into the front of the container which has an analogue face with black hands and clear roman numerals. The centre of the clock dial and the lid of the tin are both decorated with coloured images of 18th century golfers with the words 'Golf being played at St Andrews, Scotland, circa 1700' on the lid. These images are copied from a painting owned by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club which was painted by an unknown artist around 1740 and is believed to be the earliest picture to show golf being played in Britain. Condition is good for a piece of this vintage - there are some minor scratches and signs of wear to the outside of the tin but there are no dents, the lid closes well and the clock is in good working order. Presumably this originally held tea and the plastic insert designed to protect the quartz mechanism is still in place and can be easily removed to change the clock batteries.
