Description: Vintage c1936 Yiddish Theatre Theater Photo Click Photos to Enlarge Description ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~vintage photograph~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i thought this photo was of a young groucho, harpo, and chico. i've had other people look at this and they all thought this was of the marx brothers. but then please refer to the q & a below... a person very familiar with the brothers doesn't believe it's them. what i do know is that it is a sepia toned almost black and white photo of three men seated on a couch. from their collective presence, i think it's safe to say that they were/ are in the entertainment business. the gentleman who said they weren't the marx brothers suggested that they still may have been part of yiddish theatre. which makes sense. from the inscription. and from estate items... which had items signed by a number of literary, entertainment and legal luminaries. the hairstyles of the middle gentleman and the right gentleman also suggest actors, characters. perhaps vaudeville. measures about 8 by 10 inches. inscribed in yiddish in lower left corner... translated it reads something like to Bloch, a gift/M. Birnbaum/S.P. 1936 (thanks!!! to Eric who sent this to Naomi who sent this to her sister Miriam who sent this to Rabbi Geller in Miami who was kind of enough to translate this) from estate who had an ancestor named Bloch... same as the fannie hurst inscribed book currently listed. not sure who mr/ms birnbaum was. corners are soft and a bit wrinkled... especially to the lower right corner. inscription is fading. paper has yellowing from age... noticeable in margins and on reverse. some light scuffing and rub to reverse. some glare from camera flash. please don't hesitate should you have any questions or concerns.
