Description: Very Rare Pair of Vintage ANRI Carved Wood Table Bells, c1940 Anri was established by the Riffeser family in the Alps in 1912 after travelling through Europe selling small pieces of carved wood folk art. Anton Riffeser while a prisoner of war during WWI, formed a plan to grow his business, a company aimed at creating wood carvings, like those found in his small Alpine village home. New artists came on board handcrafting beautifully designed wood figurines with traditional craftsmanship using only the best materials. Anri is still a family owned and run business. Anri wood figurines with their whimsical sense of mischief are extremely sought after. Famous for it’s bottle stoppers, those who know of ANRI will recognize that this pair of bells as a rare find, these are the first I have seen or owned. The bells have wooden handles carved into wonderful character figures, they have terrific expressions. One bell has a handle carved in the form of an aging peasant woman. She has a benign face and friendly smile. Most of her hair is covered by her bonnet, her clothing appears to suggest a traditional folk costume. The gentleman is smartly attired possibly a waiter or servant. His friendly face seems to have a look of tired resignation. Their original paint is in wonderful condition, colours are faded but in good order, there are no chips, cracks or loses, only age related patina. Both have a metal bell base with a black enamelled surface that is tarnished, both bells are complete with a bright clear tone. They measure approximately 10.5cm and 9.7cm tall.
