Description: TIP TOP COMICS #33 Published in January, 1939 by United Features Syndicate, Inc. Features newspaper strip reprints of Tarzan, Hawkshaw the Detective, Jim Hardy, Benny, Broncho Bill, Ella Cinders, The Captain & the Kids, Li’l Abner, Frankie Doodle, Joe Jinks, Little Mary Mixup, Fritzi Ritz & more. Creators include Rudolph Dirks, Dick Moore’s, Ernie Bushmiller, Al Capp, Hal Foster et al. 64 pages. Measures 7 1/2” x 10 1/4”. Printed in December, 1938 & released in January, 1939, so some might consider this the tail end of the Platinum Age of Comics (or the early beginning of the Golden Age); either way, this is an old, rare comic. Condition is Poor. This book is coverless which used to get a grade of 0.5, but nowadays, CGC would probably give it a NG. Centerfold (32nd wrap) is detached & 31st wrap is separated at the bottom staple. No writing & no tape. The interior pages are complete & clean. The outer wrap & other interior pages are attached at the staples. There are a few 1/2” - 1” tears on the first page near the spine at top & bottom of first wrap. Center of spine has a triangular chunk that looks like it was removed by some tool (Knive? Scissors?). Please see photos. To be frank, it’s not pretty, but, for a comic collector, it has that historical Wow factor. Will be shipped in a hard cardboard mailer via USPS Ground Advantage.
