Monroe Aurand, Jr., who has also inscribed and signed the book on the front free endpaper. Scarce. Hardcover with yellow cloth boards, with black witch device on front cover - with the witch device repeated to dust jacket. Illustrated. Subtitled, "Containing also the complete collection of remedies and cures in John George Hohman's 'Pow-Wows, or Long Lost Friend'; in popular use since 1820". This edition was limited to 1,000 copies, of which this is #549. The book is comprised of three volumes: "The Pow-Wow" Book; An Account of the "Witch" Murder Trial (both parts by Aurand); and Pow-Wows; or Long Lost Friend by John George Hohman. Chapters include: - Pow-Wowing and Conjuring by Indians- Early Superstitions in Pennsylvania, and a Witch Trial- An Interview with a Pow-Wow Doctor- An Amulet Used During the World War- A Few Illustrative Accounts- Overcoming Superstitions- And much more. In very good condition, with firm binding; light shelf wear to boards, with a bit of fading to spine; interior is clean and free of markings, save author's inscription to ffep.
