Dark green cloth covers with slightly dulled gold printing. Former church library book, has the usual notations, pocket and sign out slip. The spine has been covered with wide clear tape. Inscription on first end page, along with blacked out lines at the top of the inside cover and that end page. Frontispiece picture is partially detached.Alice Cobb graduated as salutatorian of her class at Wesleyan College. Founded in 1836, Wesleyan was the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women. Alice then went to LaGrange Female College where a course in graduate work had just been added. She taught at Wesleyan College, in Macon, Georgia, for over forty years, retiring in 1904. After retirement from Wesleyan College, she was appointed associate secretary for the Women's Board of Foreign Missions. The author, Mary Culler White was born May 12, 1875, in Perry, Georgia, attended Wesleyan College, was a member of the Adelphian Sorority, and graduated in 1891. In 1899 she entered Foreign Field Missionary work and spent much of her life in China. She served in the Hayes Wilkins Bible School; as evangelist at the Mary Black Hospital; and for many years worked from a house boat.
