SUPER RARE E.GÜBELIN OVERSIZED 38MM STEEL CASE TRIPLE CALENDAR WATCH VALJOUX 90

Description: This is a super rare E. Gübelin wristwatch with an oversized 38mm steel case and a Valjoux 90 mechanical wind movement. This is something you’re very unlikely to see again soon! It features a triple date calendar complication with apertures above the signature for the day & month and a red arrow tipped date pointer hand to display the full calendar. It also has an incredible and untouched Arabic numeral yellow hued dial. A lot of watches of this age now unfortunately have refinished or repainted dials, so it’s amazing to find one like this that’s still original and showing its character. The watch is an early steel watch from c1940’s. Given the period, this watch would be considered a ‘Jumbo’ or ‘Oversized’ watch, the majority of watches during this period would be closer to 32/33mm. So this is a much more contemporary size. The watch is really something special to find and the condition, although showing its age with pride, is very good throughout. The Gübelin name is one steeped in high luxury, being one of the best retailers at the time (and still today) hosting all the top names…Rolex & Patek Philippe being two important ones worth mentioning. The watch is also powered by one of the top and most reliable movement makers, Valjoux. This one is the Valjoux 90. It is running well, keeping good time and the date functions all work as they should too. This watch has no service history, so of course this is something to consider to ensure reliability, given the age. The watch sits on a beautiful handmade leather strap by Torres, who are one of the best makers at the moment for period correct style straps and well worth the list prices. Pricing something like this with very little comparison listings or past sales to research is particularly hard. The closest I can find are a few priced around the £4K mark, these too are smaller watches around 34mm. I have priced at £2475 to place it way under to allow for service and the condition.
