Description: Antique late Victorian silver and crystal cruet set and stand.Set consists of 6 bottles.Three have silver tops and three have cut crystal stoppers.Original condition. It has been very carefully packed away since it was received. It may have only been used once or twice as there are a few grains of pepper in one bottle, and another has a small chip on the neck and inside on the edge at the bottom of a stopper.It hasn't been polished for over 100 years and the as you can see, the silver has a bright and mirror-like finish.The stand has an inscription on each side in the shield cartouche:On one side: December 25, 1896On the other side is a Presentation Inscription:Presented to Mr. & Mrs. Phillimoreon their Marriageby their Fellow Workers ofHerbert Street Mission The story goes that this couple did not have any children, so they passed this set on to our grandparents, who then passed it on to their daughter who then passed it on to us.Since there is no family connection, it has been decided to find it a new home where it will be appreciated and put to use instead up bundled up in the dark at the back of the buffet.Any Phillimores out there?Just need to do some research on whereabouts of the Herbert Street Mission and if they still exist. The set measures 8" tall, 7 1/2" long, 5 1/2" deep.Underneath it reads Electro Plated On Nickel Silver.Superb condition.
