Description: Soviet Medal of Honored Machine Builder of RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic), circa 1980s issue.This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL MEDAL made at the Soviet Mint and officially issued by the government. The medal is VERY NICELY MADE. Its medallion is in silver-plated brass with superimposed wreath in gold-plated brass. The medallion measures 29.4 mm wide. The eyelet of the medallion shows stamped mint mark ЛМД (“LMD”, for Leningrad Mint). The suspension device is in silver-plated brass, with ribbon representing national flag of Russia during the Soviet era, when it was a part of the Soviet Union. There is raised Leningrad Mint logo on the reverse of the suspension. Note that unlike most similar medals of Honored Titles of RSFSR, the Machine-Builder's medal is of riveted two-piece construction: the laurel branch is a separate superimposed part. The medal features interesting artwork incorporating a space rocket.The medal is in VERY GOOD condition. The gilt on the laurels is beautifully preserved and bright. The details of the artwork are pristine. The silver finish on the medallion has a few tiny spots but is otherwise intact. There is a small, barely noticeable scrape to the edge of the medallion at approximately 2 0’clock positon (possibly a result of testing for silver content.) There are no other bumps, significant scratches or dings. The medal includes original suspension with nicely preserved, clean old ribbon. The pin attachment is fully functional. Overall, a great looking piece!The title of Honored Machine Builder of RSFSR was established in 1978. It was among the highest titles of recognition bestowed by the government of Russia during the Soviet era, and it was very hard to earn. In that regard, it was similar to the “all-Union” titles such as Honored Medical Doctor of USSR or People’s Artist of the USSR. The title would be carried by its recipient for life, and having it would provide enormous benefits and career advancement opportunities. The medal first appeared three years after the establishment of the Title, in 1981 – pretty late in the Soviet era. Relatively few were ever awarded, so this medal is HARD TO FIND!
