Description: Recently, our GeekPCB technicians received a Williams Time Warp pinball machine at our repair facility. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the machine was equipped with a faulty Rottendog MPU327 -1 replacement board. To better understand the issue, our technicians promptly identified common problems associated with these specific circuit boards. This investigation revealed a design flaw related to the center right-hand mounting hole, which is positioned too close to the metal bracket. Consequently, this flaw leads to a short circuit that damages IC-U17, specifically a 74HCT9114 inverter. To address the need for a replacement chip, we conducted further research. Unfortunately, we determined that the through-hole package version of this chip is no longer in production, rendering it obsolete. However, we did find that the surface-mount device (SMD) version of the chip is still available. As a solution to this predicament, we devised a strategy to create small daughter boards, which effectively resolve the challenge presented by yet another obsolete component. Each daughter board is meticulously assembled by hand and subjected to thorough quality control tests. Once the testing process is successfully completed, the boards are carefully packaged in anti-static bags to ensure their protection.
