Rare Rowe Pottery Works Hand Made Salt Glazed Stoneware Pottery Mug W/ Metal Lid

Description: Unusual, unique, rare - all words that can be used to describe this Rowe Pottery Works mug with a one of kind metal lid. The metal lid is permanently fixed to the mug and makes is a purely decorative piece. But what a piece! Decorated on the gray glaze is a cherry and dot design. The top is a leafy vine design with a metal butterfly attached to the top and draping down the side. It is stamped with the “hoof ” potters mark and the decorators mark is by the base of the handle. If anyone has information about this piece or the people who made it I would love to hear from you. I am always learning. The metal adornment may very well be an after market attachment put on after it was purchased by the owner. I received a suggestion that it could be used as a flower frog. That would be very pretty. Note from Seller:- update July 11th,2024. I had reached out to Rowe Pottery Works, several weeks ago, to see if they had any info on this piece. I just found out that the potters mark is that of Steve Werner. They do recognize the cheery pattern found in their catalog, but not the painters mark. They will ask some of the decorators there for more insight. As for the metal attachment, the owner seems to think it was an “add-on” that was perhaps only sold in the store. I’ll add more info as I receive it. No chips, cracks or scratches. Measures 5” tall and 3.75” in diameter. Please look at photos carefully as they are part of the items' description.
