Description: Buy It Now or Best Offer.....Price Reduced. Was $595.00 A story told in silver. Over 100 years old. Rare Persian mirror covered with silver leaf repousse over a wooden core. A fine and very decorative QAJAR mirror dating to the 19th century and by repute purchased in Persia. With fine detailing all over and blue enamel cartouches it is a very interesting, decorative and vibrant piece.in good condition overall. In Iranian wedding tradition, it is customary to buy a silver mirror and two candles and place it on the wedding sofra (a piece of cloth), next to food and other traditional items. The first thing that the bridegroom sees in the mirror should be the reflection of his wife-to-be. The blue enamel is mostly missing but remains randomly on the piece. The color blemishes on the mirrors glass surface are caused by mercury oxidizing over time and is a testament of the age of this piece. It should not be considered a defect. Repoussé designed pieces of silver are done by a metalwork technique that consists of the hammering and shaping of malleable metal on the reverse side by hand. This mirror is as is, as found and has a light patina. It measures approximately 8.5 inches by 6 inches. See all photos. Priced to sell with Free Shipping. No reasonable offer refused.
