This great cacti forms plants with flat pads that are green but one of the most unique features of this species is the clusters of cinnamon colored glochids (tiny hair like spines) on the pads, and they bloom with yellow-orange flowers like many other Opuntias, I didn't have a photo of the flower of Opuntia sanguicola, so I used the photo of Opuntia macrorhiza, as the flowers are similar. These plants are extremely exotic, yet they are very cold hardy. They are hardy to at least USDA zone 4, and possibly colder.
