Description: Old African Kuba Tribal Art Lidded Crescent Tukula Cosmetic Box Congo w Stand An excellent example of an African Tribal Kuba box made to hold tukula, a fragrant red-orange camwood powder. The box is crescent form with hand carved stylized human face and eyebrows that morph into arms and with geometric designs. Camwood powder is used for body and hair decoration, and this box has been used for that purpose. It contains residue of tukula. You can see in the sixth photo (the box turned over) some powder spilling out. The box is about 3" tall 14-1/2" x 6-1/2". The piece shows signs of age and wear, the bottom especially. The wood is warped a bit from age and the lid does not sit tightly on the box. It comes with a custom made iron display stand. From the estate of a midwest collector.
