Description: NEW MERIT 1/350 HMS ARK ROYAL British WW2 Aircraft Carrier, Circa 1939 Perhaps one of the best-known and beloved ship names in the Royal Navy, HMS Ark Royal has had five incarnations; this kit represents the third such ship, which was launched in 1937 and sunk in 1941. The highlight of her career was the participation of her SWORDFISH torpedo bombers in the sinking of the German Battleship BISMARCK. The first purpose-built aircraft carrier — those before had been converted from other classes — Ark Royal boasted large hangars, a hurricane bow, a rounded-down stern to reduce turbulence for landing aircraft and double the anti-aircraft armament carried by contemporary Allied carriers.
