Description: Part series, 9 original engravings by the listed German printmaker Georg Wolfgang Knorr (1705 - 1761) published in Nuremberg, circa 1740. Depicting scenes of courtship, three images to each plate, three plates totalling nine images, numbered 1-3, 4-6 and 10-12. Signed in the first plate "G. W. Knorr exc. Norib e" lower right margin. Note: Noribergæ, abbreviated to Norib, is the Latin name for Nuremberg, the city in Germany where the engraving was published. Engravings, printed in black ink on laid paper, unframed and unmounted. Engravings in good/fair original condition, strong impressions, but with creases, age toning and small paper losses to the margins; condition within the plate is much cleaner (see photos). Self-study of natural history and the history of art; Trained in landscape painting in the 1730s, and later engraved landscapes, portraits and geological formations. Published the first table of the planets in the 1740s, as well as several botanical, malacological and fossil related texts later in his career, for which he is best known. Died in Nuremberg.
