Preface Kunimasa Matsuba Thank you for your picking up this booklet. As you know, the Japanese sword has been an outstandingly special thing in the tools which has appeared in Japanese history. It may be said that it is afterglow of the strong glare of past that we continue still creating swords present days of the 21st century. However, in 2009, an idea to the true value of the Japanese sword began to blow in my thought at a burst by a certain encounter. The idea inspired me that we would be able to spotlight Japanese sword new and let them release from the yoke of historical misunderstanding. The idea has reached fruition as this booklet. I understand that it is too high aim for simple swordsmith. I think however that it may be some viewpoint that only swordsmith who is "budo-ka" or martial artist can become aware of. Three proffesionals kindly gave me the words which carried on the end of this booklet about relationship with me. They are Takasato Nakamura, "laidoh-ka" or artist of drawing sword, violinist Iwao Furusawa and Hiroyuki Aoki, originator of "Shin-taidoh" one of the martial arts in Japan. And MD. Toshihiko Yayama, director of Y.H.C. Yayama Clinic who is the one I encountered and was inspired contributed an article titled "Japanese sword is a weapon of Ki or vital energy". The article is more than supplement for my poor depiction. Professor Mr. Kazuhiro Kinoshita of Rikkyo University gave many advices to me about various matter. I sincerely express my appreciation to him. In addition, a German friend Gregore Cohnen, Netherland- residing Japanese friend Mr. Takao Fujimoto and his friend Mr. Frank Reemer English friend Mt. Paul Halpen and Ms. Barbara Morrison of Utsunomiya University voluntarily dedicated in English translation of body text. I am deeply grateful for your dedication.
