Description: New 11/22. Sub-titled “North of the Connoquenessing. The Railroad that Ellwood City Forgot.” Author/publisher Wayne Cole has written over 20 books on the active and “paper” railroads, trackside industries, towns, and topography loosely based on the border land described by western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and the panhandle of West Virginia. These books encompass Pittsburgh, New Castle, Youngstown, Sharon, Warren, Beaver Falls, and other locations. Previously, Cole tackled the old 3-foot narrow gauge that became part of the B&O’s Pittsburgh & Western empire from Callery Jct. to Kane. This time, he deals with the B&O's old Pittsburgh-Chicago mainline which built a somewhat tortuous single-track main from Etna on the Allegheny River across and through the steep hills, narrow valleys, and twisting watersheds north of Pittsburgh to Harmony, Ellwood City, New Castle, and on to Youngstown. With co-author Mark Barnes, a blend of vintage through current images supplemented by numerous track plans and maps depict some 14 miles of the route of the original narrow gauge and the newer standard gauge lines (where they diverged). Included are the Dutchman’s Railroad, Duck Run Branch, Lawrence Ore Railroad, mining and quarry industrial lines, steel mills, and some P&LE trackage in and around Ellwood City. This is a 360-page b&w laminated hardcover book with a small color section. Printed on gloss paper. New shrinkwrapped copy. This is a very limited print run so grab a copy now for your collection!
