Description: German WW2 Greatcoat with liner and hood. The ankle length Greatcoat was as iconic as the helmet and jackboots, like everything else in WW2 the Wehrmacht adapted it to meet conditions as the war went on. The German soldiers basic winter coat when they enetered WW2 was the M36, a nice looking. double breasted, gray green overcoat with dark green collar which would be sufficient for most European winters, These proved to be completely inadequate in the first winter in Russia which spurred a rapid development of winter gear for the Wehrmacht. This particular greatcoat is sometimes referred to as a "Sentry Coat" as it provided certain enhancements to provide better protection against the elements It features the oversized collar of the M40/43, the regular slanted waist poclets. but there also two additional vertical side pockets which offered easier access. The coat also has a heavy wool liner and an attached hood, large enough to fit over a helmet. making for a pretty fair set up.against winter weather, Condition is acually pretty good considering it obviously saw eztensive durty. It is well worn with some nips and several field repairs including a sizable patch on the inside lining but overall solid and still serviceable. Still retains all of its buttons (which is remarkable in itself) and what I found to be really unique is that of the three buttons securing the bottom rear, the top one is a Soviet cap button. I can only imagine the thought process and history involved there. 24" armpit width, 20"shoulder width and 28" sleeve length..all approximates. Great original piece of history. Heavy and bulky so SH&I will be $28.00
