German Modified M1869 Werder Bayonet M1871 Mauser Uruguayan Rifle Bayonet Sheath

Description: STK: #BAYO-09Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera 1870's German Made W & ST (Weyersberg & Stamm, Solingen) M1869 Werder Converted to M1871 Mauser Uruguayan Contract Sword Bayonet and Brass / Leather Scabbard Manufacturer: Weyersberg & Stamm, Solingen Model: Converted Bavarian M1869 to Mauser M1871 Model Blade Length: 18.187" Serial #: 391 (r?) TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a German Unification era converted Bavarian Werder M1869 to Uruguayan Mauser M1871 Yataghan sword bayonet and scabbard. This was made by Weyersberg & Stamm, Solingen. This model was introduced by the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1869, before the unification of Germany. These Yataghan style bayonets were converted to fit the M1871 Mauser rifles sent to Uruguay and used in the 1880's. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. The brass serrated grip and brass guard a securely fastened to the tang. The grip has impact marks, scrapes and some of the serrations have worn thin. There are two rivets, one is steel and has started to oxidize and the other one is silver looking. It may have been used to repair the left side grip serration. The guard has a couple draglines. Both the guard and grip have started to tarnish a darker yellow gold color. The blade is not straight, it is bent the last third from the end of the fuller to the tip. The spine, sides and fullers have oxidation, scratches and discoloration. There are nicks and dings on the blade edge. It appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact but it comes to a semi-sharp slightly bent point. The blade finish is in the white, but has started to darken with age. The spine is marked "391" and possibly an "r", plus another possible character in front that has worn off. The right ricasso is marked "NGEN" (Solingen) and "W & ST" (Weyersberg & Stamm). The top of the brass grip is marked "3" with some possible other markings but the scratches and impact marks makes it hard to read. This leather and brass scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age. The brass frog loop is securely attached. Both the brass locket and chape have impact marks, scrapes and scratches. They have started to tarnish a darker golden color. They are securely attached to the leather body. There is a very light wiggle, almost not worth mentioning. The leather has no rips or tears but some of the stitching has come done, most notably towards the locket. It is still fully functional though. There are a few areas where the leather has started to dry out and crack a little bit, but it is mostly the finish and not the leather. Most of the original finish remains. This scabbard has a lot of markings! They do NOT match the bayonet unfortunately, but there are also unit markings too. Above the wire loop frog is the serial marking "994". The leather below the locket is marked, but part of it is hard to read. It looks like "11 1R" and "1875". The chape on the same side as the belt frog loop has markings that are crossed out. The markings are "57916 / 11 J / 5" and on the opposite side of the chape is "45294 / L. / 14 I / 5. / 139 / 5". This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Uruguayan M1871 rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
