Along with the likes of the Chi-Lites, Delfonics and Stylistics there were the quintessential vocal group. Like their contemporaries they both excelled at the forlorn falsetto ballads, and the more assertive, up tempo declarations that defined the era. Not slick enough to be dubbed 'urban contemporary' they offered a polished take on the earlier soul of Motown (especially the Temptations and Marvin Gaye) and Philadelphia (the O'Jays, particularly on the more up tempo numbers in their arsenal). Their music was soulful, smooth, romantic and melodious, with equally affectionate and loving lyrics to match. Originally released in 1980. Limited edition of 2000.
