Description: Very Good vintage condition. Some fraying of the silk cord, loss of faux pearl layering, patina, and a spot of oxidation on one book chain link (it has been treated and cleaned). There is one faceted clear bead that appears to be a replacement, as it has an AB coating and a larger pinhead than the others. All beads and components appear intact, which is wonderful because this brooch has a lot of components! This brooch showcases the best of the Miriam Haskell and Frank Hess collaboration: molded pinhead glass beads in jewel tone colors, book chain accents, clusters of moving beads, faux pearls in brass tulip settings, and a bountiful composition that is signature Haskell. Brooch was pieced together by hand-sewing the components on a mesh backing. Most Haskell pieces used a metal backing and wires, but switched to clear celluloid backings and thread during WWII, as in this case. A show stopper of a piece, and quite a rarity. Carefully packaged and shipped in a jewelry gift box.
