Description: This is an early paper photograph that came out of a Beufort,South Carolina estate back in the 1980’s where I purchased it. The photograph is at least Civil War period and much earlier and features a small boy in antebellum clothing standing next to an odd looking mirror. The mirror seems so out of place in the context of the photograph and perhaps is a reflecting apparatus from the photographer? The child’s facial features have been outlined by the photographer in a primitive fashion. I have seen this process done on early albumen and salt prints. The image is on a semi-thick stock that I have found to be consistent with photographs before the Civil War in the south.
