Description: Charming Pair Silver Hanau German Gravy Sauce Boats Basket Flowers Cherub DesignPresented is a lovely pair of antique Hanau German silver gravy or sauce boats, dating to the late 1800s. The gravy boats are made in a beautiful and ornate style, finely hand chased with a basket of flowers on both sides. The rims are decorated with an alternating C scroll border. The handle, separately cast and applied, is likewise in a scroll design with a little cherub or putti figurehead as the thumbpiece. The boats are a charming small size, not like a Thanksgiving gravy tureen, more in line with a large salt cellar, so perhaps intended for delicate French sauces, though of course you can use them however you like. This pair is in excellent condition. The details of the designs are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Both the gravy boats have a maker's mark beside the handle, an A with a crown above it, as well as a French import mark along the rim, a cricket or similar type insect in a rectangular punch. The gravy boats are silver of at least 900 purity, nitric acid tested and guaranteed. Each gravy boat measures about 4 3/8 inches from end of the handle to spout, and stands about 2 inches tall at the highest point of the handle. The width at the widest part is 2 inches. The total weight for the pair is 127 grams or 4.5 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
