Description: This photo shows Bob Dylan at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival, preparing to go to perform with others in a Topical Song Workshop. Dylan at this time had not gone electric. He would do so the following year. He was still thought of as a topical song writer mostly from the popularity of "Blowing in the Wind." Ironically, Dylan was propelled into a celebrity status in the Folklsong Revival in New York City by that song being chosen for the flip side of Peter, Paul and Mary's early recording "If I had a Hammer." PP&M never did go electric. This previously unpublished photo of Bob Dylan shows him finishing a cigarette before leaving for the staging area for the Topical Song workshop. In the film, "A Complete Unknown," Dylan sings "Tamborine Man" on that stage. Note that he is wearing the same jacket in this photo as in the film. However, this is the real thing, not the film.
