Description: For sale is a custom made Ashtabula (American) style bottom bracket shell reamer. The sale includes all that you see in the pictures.....the reamer, the aluminum centering cone and 29 carbide cutting inserts. The reamer reams to 51.25mm allowing Ashtabula (American) one piece bottom bracket cups to be pressed into a bottom bracket shell without excessive force. We have used this literally hundreds of times and have never changed or rotated the inserts. Because the inserts are square they can be rotated 3 times when dull. That information combined with 29 new inserts means that you will be able to ream literally 1000's of bottom bracket shells before buying more inserts. Insert replacement is easy. There are 8-1/8" allen head bolts (2 can be seen in picture #4). Loosen and remove the bolt, put a punch in one of the 8 holes that are just below each insert and tap out the insert. Clean the insert cavity well so that when the new insert is put in it rests on a clean surface and reams to the proper diameter. 6 of the 8 holes can be seen in picture #5. To use the reamer you need a lathe, milling machine or strong drill press. The 1/2" shank gets clamped in the chuck and the aluminum centering cone gets secured in the tail stock if using a lathe or will have to be modified to allow it to be bolted down to the table on a mill or drill press. The aluminum centering cone has a 1/2" shank and comes with a 1-1/4" adapter. As always wear safety glasses and use a high quality taping fluid. Only turn the cutter in a clockwise direction.
