Description: This is a Singer Model 20 an antique hand crank sewing machine It is a child-sized machine with a 7-spoke wheel (#3 version with impressed threading guide numbers which dates between 1926 and 1950's). The box graphics combined and fact this is cast iron help date this piece to the end of the pre-WW2 range since machines were made from aluminum after the war. These machines were not meant to be toys, but to teach sewing to youngsters. Comes with screwdriver / key tool. Since this has bobbin action and tension, this is designed to do straight stitch (not chain stich done by earlier models). Hallmarks: Painted gold Singer Co. logo / emblem on base, and word "Singer" on other side. Approximate age: late 1930's or c. 1940's pre-WW2. Dimensions: Machine 7" wide x 7" tall x 3-5/8" deep (the diameter of the hand crank wheel). Silver-tone work surface is 3" x 3". Oval base is 4" wide x 3" deep. Box measures 7" wide x 7.5" long x 4" high. Condition: Very good giftable condition. Hand crank turns freely, causing bobbin to turn and needle head to move up and down as they should. However, not tested with fabric (there is a test piece which came in box and shows good stitching -- but do not know what has transpired since this test was made). No observed missing parts. Needle envelope does not contain a needles. Black paint and gold graphics in excellent shape. Box has tearing and splits (I would estimate graphics are 70% - 80% intact). Original literature & guides not present. Unpacked weight: 2 lbs. 14 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping.
