Description: Antique Victorian Repousse Silverplate Footed SEWING Casket/Box Acanthus 1604 Antique Victorian Sewing/Jewelry Box with raised silverplate repousse Acanthus Vine Leaves and flowers. Measures 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 4 1/2". Edged with brass/bronze strapping on edges. Applied cast bronze/brass acanthus decorated feet. Cover hinged with original brass/bronze hardware and closure. Interior has original dark burgundy fabric. Some splitting of the fabic along the inside hinge. Inside top has oval beveled mirror. (approx. 4" x 5 1/2") showing evidence of slight brush strokes showing that the original reflective backing was painted on (and not deteriorated.)Mirror has edges with decorative wound roping trim-still firmly attached. , The center bar is hinged on one side so that it can be lifted up and out of the way. Top of bar has loops for storage of period sewing implements, usually made from bone, ivory and wood. If you turn the box over, it shows a wood bottom with a carefully pieced structure that is covered with a period Victorian type of glued-on paper, which shows the wear of over 100 years of use. (Still in reasonably good condition with some loss of paper in some areas) Oval cartouche on the lid which is NOT monogrammed. There is some light brassing to the overall box as you would expect from a piece this old. This would polish up a little if you would like, but there is tons of patina on this piece that I left as I found it.
