Description: ANTIQUE ROYAL DUX BOHEMIA ART NOUVEAU WOMAN MAIDEN ON SEASHELL w/JUG “MINTY” I can see no major damages. No chips, no loss of paint. There are two teensy factory dimples on the front ledge of the seashell which happened in the making. There is a faint, really faint stable hairline on that same ledge. See last 2 images. You have to look for them and they’re totally non-distracting. A lovely young maiden rests at the edge of a pool of water modeled as a conch shell. Her hands are folded and her arm hangs languidly over the jug that she will use to draw the water from the pool. The base features a highly detailed underwater motif. Rendered in the wonderful hand painted iconic Royal Dux soft pastel colors of cream, moss green and pink with delicate metallic gold highlights. The interior of the conch shell is glazed over and so I can see the bowl being used to hold fruit or treats, or it can be filled with water to float blossoms. Many of the antique Royal Dux centerpieces are huge and ungainly. They were made to draw attention in the large drawing rooms and salons of the times but most homes of today can’t accommodate them. This piece is the perfect size at 8” high x 7.5” wide and would fit nicely in most homes. The underside has the raised bubble- gum pink triangle acorn E mark dating it to approximately 1900-1918. The “E” refers to the original owner, Eduard Eichler (1830-1887) who founded the company in Duchcov (Czechoslovakia) in 1860, and the acorn is a further play on his name (acorn in German is “Eichel”). The base is also impressed with the model number 1750. You will be very pleased with this piece.
