Description: Offered tonight is this beautifully made and well-kept antique mid-19th century wooden sewing or jewelry box crafted and embellished with an inset atop the outside lid that has been artfully crafted in microbeading. The rectangular wooden box features lovely rosewood veneer and the turquoise beaded insert that has a beaded multi-colored bouquet in the center looks striking against the dark wood. The box retains the original finish in very good condition. There are lovely complementary narrow silver inlaid lines that are very eye-catching contrasted with the rosewood. There is a silver lock on the outer lid edge but no key unfortunately. I do not see any loss of beading, and the interior is separated into two sections for holding various items. This piece was part of one person’s collection of other matching Victorian turquoise beaded objects and I plan on listing the other two remaining items soon. The other items are an eyeglass case and a small rectangular sliding box for little objects like pins or matches. The only thing to mention about the box is that one of the two hinges(each hinge has four tiny screws) is missing one little screw, which can be easily replaced & there is a little narrow sliver of wood missing in the inset compartment divider, which is minor. (See pics)The bottom of the box has a hairline that has occurred over time above the place where the wooden divider piece was inserted. It doesn’t go all the way through. Please see all the photos and consider them part of the description. Some faint lines in the wood due to age are hard to notice but I want to mention them for accuracy. They don’t detract from the beauty or the value of a piece like this. This auction is for the rosewood veneered box only. The other matching pieces—the eyeglass case and little rectangular box will be listed in another listing.
