Antique Imperial German Reservist Regimental Pipe dated 1905

Description: Imperial German Reservist Regimental Pipe dated 1905 This is a very nice hand painted and monogrammed German Reservist Pipe. These pipes were issued to soldiers who served in the German Army from the 1870s to just before WW1. This one is dated on the back 1905. Hand painted in detail on the pipe bowl both front and back. The front painting of a mounted soldier has the motto 'Sieg oder Tod! " (Victory or Death) around the soldiers head with a heading above that and a number 9 to the bottom. I don't know the meaning of the other though the 9 is repeated on the back. The back painting is of a Hand Shake with a pair of Doves kissing below surrounded by a Flower Wreath. Beneath that there are three symbols: a pin cushion, pair of scissors and a ? There is writing above and below. It measures 43 1/4in (110cm) in length and weighs 754g in total. It separates into seven pieces. The pipe has Stag Horn highlights with the mouth piece also being of shaped Stag Horn. The bowls are Porcelain The inverted miniature Horse Shoe is Metal, Iron by the look and feel. The wood is (I think) a dark ebonised Rosewood except for the section that feeds into the bowl, this looks to be a rustic veneered piece of wood that I do not recognise. (It may or may not be original, it has however, been with the pipe a very long time and fits correctly.) CONDITION - In poor to fair used condition and showing wear consistent with age and use. The bottom centimetre of the porcelain bowl is snapped off and missing, and the lid is also missing. The lid was probably in the shape of a spiked helmet. (called a Pickelhaube) There is cloth tape around some ends and there is wire holding two of the pieces together. It still presents nicely with the faults being not obviously visible and I am selling in 'As Found ' condition.
