Description: ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY STONEWARE DARK BROWN ALBANY SLIP GLAZE BATTER PITCHER. The Pitcher Has an Appealing Bulbous Shape with a Pour Spout on 1 Side, an Applied Handle on the Other Side and 2 Incised Decorative Rings Just Below the Rim and Around the Center. The Pitcher is Glazed on Both the Inside and Outside while the Rim (Other than the Pour Spout) and Underneath are Unglazed. As Shown in the Last Photo there are 2 Markings to the Right of the Handle which Instead May Just Be Crafting Flaws. The Antique Pitcher is a Family Piece from my Grand Parents in Upstate New York. Noteworthy, the Pitcher has a White Lime Residue Inside Just Below the Rim from "Egg Water Glazing", a 19th Century Technique for Preserving Eggs Before the Use of Refrigeration. Amazingly, Eggs Could Be Preserved for up to 18 Months by Leaving them in a Lime and Water Solution Such as Was Done Here.
