Description: For the Andrew Wyeth collector, a color collotype print "Arthur Cleveland", circa 1965, from a limited edition of only 100, **with INK SIGNED-by-the-artist label** affixed to the backing. The print measures 26" by 18 3/4" and frame is 1 1/2" wide on a side. This was acquired in Connecticut; the seller stated that it had been acquired from a Boston gallery in the 1960's by her parents, who had unfortunately trimmed off the margins to make it fit the frame. Happily they did retain the signature portion, which remains affixed to the backing. The work retains its decorative value, the image not faded, and the label signed by Andrew Wyeth is a real treasure. The subject, Arthur Cleveland, was a farmer from the Chadds Ford area who was a friend of the artist. Wyeth of course needs little introduction to Americans; he remains almost a household name. The son of famed American illustrator N.C. Wyeth, the youngest of his children, he received art training almost entirely from his father. Andrew went on to create his own fame, in his unique realistic style, largely in watercolor painting. His brother-in-law Peter Hurd taught him the egg tempera technique, which became perhaps his favorite medium. Wyeth painted principally in southeastern Pennsylvania around Chadds Ford, and in Cushing, Maine. He became a familiar sight in both places almost to his death, and remains one of America's most beloved and recognized 20th century artists. His original works have brought many hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction. This is an opportunity to own something that he, at one brief point in time, personally handled.
