Description: Ambrotype 1850s-1860s. 6th-Plate, 3-1/4" x 2-3/4". Glare and cellphone outline on photos is from cellphone camera. Cover glass is very dirty, could use a good, careful cleaning. ---2 Little girls, most likely twins, Spanish or Creole-Native American, but their dresses and dress material more places them to the southwest. ---Both have pink-tinted cheeks. The little girl on the right is wearing dangle earrings and a ring on her middle left finger. ---Their dresses are of a simple construction, with rounded necklines of very loose gathers, almost like a drawstring, and short sleeves. The dresses both seem to be of a one-piece pattern, with waistline gathers. Although not seen, both the waistline gathers and neckline gathers probably have adjusting ties in the back of the dresses. ---Dress material is of a Southwestern design pattern. ---Zooming in on what they are holding, the girl with braids appears to be holding a daguerrotype or ambrotype photo case and the little girl on the right appears to be holding a photo. The object the little girl on the right is holding seems to be reflective, and if you look very carefully, the oval mat and preserver are discernible. ---The question is: Are there 2 photographs, one in the case on the left and the reflective object (daguerrotype) on the right? Or, was the reflective object on the right taken out of the case on the left. There's definitely a story that goes with what this photograph is portraying.
