Αριστερά του Δισκοβόλου απεικονίζεται το λογότυπο ¨ΑΘΗΝΑ 2004¨ και οι πέντε ολυμπιακοί κύκλοι που συμβολίζουν τις πέντε ηπείρους. Κόπηκε για να τιμήσει τους λαμπρούς Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες της Αθήνας, το 2004, και δημιούργησε θεσμό. Έκτοτε, όλες οι χώρες της Ευρωζώνης άρχισαν να κόβουν αναμνηστικά κέρματα των 2 ευρώ για να σηματοδοτήσουν ιστορικά γεγονότα. Ο Δισκοβόλος που απεικονίζεται στο κέρμα είναι έργο του καλλιτέχνη Μύρωνα και αναπαριστά ένα εξαιρετικό χάλκινο άγαλμα αρχαιοελληνικής γλυπτικής του 5ου αιώνα π.Χ..
