Description: Welcome to BKCranston! Please take a moment to read the description, condition and browse the photos. Description: This is a antique 19th century document box which has been changed up a bit over the years. I felt that being identified to a family warrants it's existence in a nice collection. It has nice old hand hewn pine boards which are really hard to show in a photograph, but, you can plainly see and feel in real life. It is dovetailed constructed on the corners and has small hand wrought rose-head and square nails holding it all together. The interior retains a cloth lining which looks to be original C.1860 period textile. The neat part is the bottom is stenciled with O. Little family name. The handle is leather as well as the hinges which have been moved and replaced at one time. The leather doesn't last forever, as they have split once again. The box originally had brass tacking at one time which all are removed probably in the late 19th century or so. It is a very neat primitive box just for the fact it has a family name to it, I think that historical fact makes this neat old box a bit special. The Little surname was found in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Scotland between 1840 and 1920. In 1880, the United States had the most Little families. Pennsylvania had the highest population of Little families in 1840, with 208 families. Measures approx.; 16 1/4" long x 7 1/4" tall x 9 3/8" deep (41.27cm x 18.41cm x 23.81cm)Condition: It's an old box, it has some flaws, it has some great points to it to. Leather hinges are torn, lock mechanism was replaced at one time as I see a slightly different cut-out area to the side when viewed closely, the old brass tacking is long gone.
