19th Century Historical Document Western Reserve 1847 Letter Ashtabula County

Description: This four-page letter written June 25th, 1847 by the Rev Jonathan Leslie (Presbyterian) on two sheets of (8"10") paper is a rare and valuable piece of history. Its handwritten contents offer a glimpse into life during a time of great change in the United States. The letter was written by one of the first to settle in the Connecticut Western Reserve, Ashtabula County, Ohio, and is a fascinating example of correspondence from the mid 19th century. Rev. Jonathan Leslie, the author of the letter is mentioned in local recorded history as early as 1808. These four pages on two sheets give an interesting look into a number of weeks in not only his life, but of others as well. He tells of being called to the side of a dying woman, and at the funeral he preached, there were rumors of her being poisoned by her husband, a postmaster, who was arrested and tried. He shares the outcome and more. The almost 200 year old letter is fragile. Some portions of the paper have come apart and has old tape, but are still legible. Please see the pictures for details. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a unique addition to your collection, this 1847 letter is sure to impress. If I can help, please ask prior to purchase. Thank you.
