Sargent William A. (Shorty) Evans, a police officer for 40 years and 25 days, retired Wednesday at the age of 65. Evans, who served with almost every division on the force, was in the jail squad when he retired. He was honored Wednesday with a party by the Wives Auxiliary of the Police Officers' Association, of which Evans is a past president. Chief Herman Short, who lauded Evans for his service, looks at Evans' scrapbook. Evans will retire to his acreage in Katy to fish and golf, Texas Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
