The Edinburgh International Festival was established in 1947 in a post-war effort to "provide a platform for the flowering of the human spirit". The creator of this poster, Jean Cocteau (1889 - 1963), was a French writer, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker. Cocteau is best known for his novel Les Enfants Terribles (1929), and the films The Blood of a Poet (1930), Les Parents Terribles (1948), Beauty and the Beast (1946) and Orpheus (1949). Due to his variety of skills and projects, he moved in many different artistic circles in his lifetime. Among his notable friends are Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Yul Brynner, Marlene Dietrich, Coco Chanel, Edith Piaf, and Colette. This poster was announcing the 1962 edition of the Edinburgh Festival. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. It is in good condition except for minor edge wear. Bottom left corner is creased (see photos).
