Atlanta, Georgia. Hugh Casey (Baseball) (Dead), (above), former major league pitching star, and great relief hurler for the Brooklyn Dodgers, committed suicide in a hotel here today, according to police reports. C.R. Fleming, of the Atlanta police, reported that the body was found with a .16 gauge shotgun wound in the neck. The officer said that ill health was probably the cause, and that Casey had been in poor health for some time. According to Lieutenant Fleming, Hugh was talking to his wife on the phone at her home when he fired the blast. Mrs. Casey is reported to have heard the shot over the phone. A friend of Casey's told police that former baseball star had told him on the phone that he planned to kill himself. The friend hurried to the hotel and when he was about 30-feet from the door he heard a shot. Pittsburgh Pirates.Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches. Photo is dated 7-3-1951.
