The presented rare limited edition, published in the autumn of 1917 (the first edition of the book), is dedicated tothe history of the foundation, glorious past, culture and church architecture of the capital of the Don Cossacks - the townl of Cherkassk (now the village of Starocherkasskaya). The author of the book is Nikolay Fedorovich Baranovsky(pseudonym N. Lavrsky) - art critic, bibliographer and publicist, employee of the newspaper "Priazovsky Krai"and other Don publications. The author dedicated the book to the glorious Don Army, September 17, 1917.Touching on the architectural sights of Cherkassk, N.F. Baranovsky (Lavrsky) notes: "Here, in the spiritual cradleof the Don Cossacks, the forms of Ukrainian Baroque - folk art that absorbed the architectural forms of Poland and Galicia - are intricately intertwined with the forms of Moscow architecture." "Nowhere is the charm of the past felt so fully and acutely as in small provincial towns and villages where architectural monuments of this past have been preserved. Here, as two or three hundred years ago, almost the same appearance has been preserved," the author writes, characterizing the former cultural and spiritual center of the Don Cossacks. Автор книги - Николай Федорович Барановский (псевдоним Н. Лаврский) - искусствовед, библиограф и публицист, сотрудник газеты "Приазовский край" и других донских изданий. Автор посвятил книгу славному Войску Донскому, 17-го Сентября 1917 года. Касаясь архитектурных достопримечательностей Черкасска, Н.Ф. Барановский (Лаврский) отмечает: "Здесь в духовной колыбели донского казачества причудливосплелись формы украинского барокко - народного творчества, впитавшего архитектурные формыПольши и Галиции, - с формами московской архитектуры". "Нигде так полно и остро не чувствуется обаяние прошлого, как в маленьких провинциальных городках и местечках, в которых сохранились архитектурные памятники этого прошлого.
