Description: GREAT STYLE, EARLY HANDMADE ADJUSTABLE ANTIQUE c.1830-1860 Tin CANDLE HOLDER, w/Finger Ring DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....RARE, early antique candle holder from my collection. Hand made by an early tinsmith. Tab is there to move the candle, AND IT WORKS!! Lifts candle up about 2". Has a finger hold for the index finger to hold it. Low style, sometimes called a "wee willie winkie" style, from the child's storybook. Was used to get to bed on a cold winter night. Very substantial and is made of thin sheet tin. Measures about 4 3/4" diameter at the base, not counting the finger hold, and 3 1/2" tall. This has great lines, and really reflects its early age and period and function. This is a hogscraper design. Commonly used to help remove hair from pigs, using the top. A CLASSIC LOOK AND A GREAT EARLY DECORATOR, especially considering the nice finish. A GREAT PIECE OF PRIMITIVE AMERICANA, a great decorator, and can still be used!! Great aged appearance with an even surface and patina, giving it a nice early look. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND ONE LIKE THIS TODAY. This can be used as a functional item or as a nice original early antique decorative item, displayed on an early desk or on an early kitchen or dining room shelf. In very good condition, with little wear and nice patina. This was part of a very early antique lighting collection, originally from a local New England estate. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
